Madrid’s evolution into one of Europe’s premier ultra-luxury destinations has marked another milestone. IHG Hotels & Resorts has officially signed its first Kimpton-branded property in the Spanish capital, securing a spot in one of the city’s most affluent golden districts.

Developed in partnership with the iconic Spanish retail giant El Corte Inglés, and with strategic advisory from Colliers Hotels Iberia, the highly anticipated luxury hotel is slated to open its doors in mid-2030.

A Heritage Address in Barrio Salamanca

The new boutique property will occupy an iconic, historic building located at Goya Street, 89, right in the heart of the prestigious Barrio Salamanca. Celebrated for its tree-lined boulevards, nineteenth-century architecture, high-end designer boutiques, and Michelin-starred dining, the neighbourhood provides the ultimate backdrop for Kimpton’s human-centric, design-forward philosophy.

The 106-key hotel will blend historical preservation with bold modern flair. It is set to feature a comprehensive lineup of premium lifestyle spaces, including:

  • A vibrant ground-floor destination restaurant bridging local culinary culture with global trends.

  • A dedicated wellness sanctuary complete with a luxurious spa and indoor pool.

  • A standout rooftop bar and restaurant offering sweeping views across Madrid’s picturesque, sun-drenched rooftops and landmark historic buildings.

“Madrid has firmly established itself as one of Europe’s most compelling destinations for luxury travel,” notes Willemijn Geels, Vice President of Development, Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts. “This exceptional hotel will give guests a distinctive new way to experience the city through Kimpton’s bold design, heartfelt service, and locally inspired experiences.”

Capturing Madrid’s Golden Tourism Era

The timing of the signing capitalises on an extraordinary surge in Madrid’s high-end travel economy. Tourism has firmly cemented itself as one of the capital’s primary economic engines, with international visitor spending reaching a record €17.9 billion in 2025—representing a sharp 11% year-on-year growth and a staggering 71% increase compared to pre-pandemic 2019 data.

By embedding itself within Goya Street, the hotel is perfectly positioned to capture premium domestic and international demand, offering a stylish residential refuge just steps away from the capital’s core cultural and retail experiences.

Strengthening the Spanish Lifestyle Portfolio

While marking a grand debut for the capital, the signing builds upon a highly successful footprint for the Kimpton brand across Spain’s elite holiday and urban destinations, joining sister properties already thriving in Barcelona, Mallorca, and Marbella.

The project underscores IHG’s aggressive momentum in the European luxury sector, adding to a regional luxury and lifestyle portfolio that currently stands at 116 open hotels across the continent, with an ambitious 68 more properties securely tucked into the development pipeline.
